She gained French Government scholarship for 12 months (2004-2005). İrem Özgören Kınlı is working as a full-time lecturer in Media and Communication Department since September 2006. She teaches undergraduate courses in Theories of Communication, Daily Life and Communication, History of Communication, and Gender & Media. Her research subjects are interdisciplinary and cover the issues of Sociology of Communication, Political Communication, History of Communication, Theories of Communication, Figurational Sociology and Political Sociology. Her research focus and publication are on gender and media, Norbert Elias, civilizing process and Ottoman Empire.
