Xander van Eck (1962) studied art history at Groningen University and Amsterdam University. He got his PhD at the Free University of Amsterdam in 1994. He worked as assistant professor and associate professor of art history of the Renaissance and Baroque at Utrecht University between 1994 and 2007. In 2004, he was visiting professor at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. His main research subject is the art of the Counter Reformation in the Northern and Southern Netherlands, about which he published several books and many articles in Simiolus, Oud Holland and The Burlington Magazine. In 2007 he moved to Izmir where he is now a professor of art history at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design of Izmir University of Economics
