After completing her undergraduate education at İzmir Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Law in 1984, she started to work as a research assistant in the civil law department at DEU Faculty of Law in the same year.
She completed her undergraduate and doctorate degrees in Ankara University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Private Law. She prepared her master's thesis on “Time-Sharing Property Rights” and her doctoral thesis on “Compensation of positive damage for the Debitor’s default in contract that imposes obligations on both parties.”
During the writing of her doctoral thesis, she was a visiting scholar at the Westfaelische Wilhelms-University in Münster, Germany, under the auspices of Prof.Dr.Wlfried Schüter, within the framework of a 14-month research grant she received from the German Academic Exchange Program (DAAD). Later on, she worked at the University of Münster to do post-doctoral research at the invitation of the DAAD institution.
Prof. Havutcu was appointed as an associate professor at Galatasaray University Faculty of Law in 1999. After working at Galatasaray University for two years, DEU. She returned to the Faculty of Law and was promoted to professor at DEU Faculty of Law in 2006.
Prof. Havutcu worked as a permanent staff at Izmir Yaşar University Faculty of Law between 2011-2021.
During her academic life, she taught civil law at various universities such as Cyprus Near East University and Istanbul Bilgi University, in addition to the universities where she worked as a permanent staff.
Since January 2022, she started to work as a permanent staff at Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Law.
Prof. Dr. Ayşe Havutcu's main areas of interest are Law of Obligations, Law of Liability, Family Law, Law of Persons, Law of Consumers, Law of General Transaction Conditions, Law of Version-Distribution Agreements and Systems, Producer's responsibility.
