Banu Değirmencioğlu was born in 1981 in Muğla. She was graduated from Muğla Anatolian High School in 1999. She completed her undergraduate education at Hacettepe University, Department of Psychology between 1999-2003. In 2003, she settled in İzmir, and worked at several foundations and a government institution. In 2008, she got master's of science degree from Dokuz Eylül University, Health Sciences Institute, Department of Neuroscience, Clinical Neuroscience program with the thesis topic of “Reliability and Validity Study of Dokuz Eylül Theory of Mind Scale”. In 2021, she completed Basic Neuroscience PhD in the same department, with the topic of “Cognitive and Social Cognitive Impairment in Schizophrenia: A 4-year Follow-Up Study”.
