Dr. Bilçağ Akgün is a medical doctor who graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine. He also has PhD in Genetics from the same university. He is currently working as an Assistant Professor at the Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Medicine. In addition to his academic studies, he teaches classes in Medical Genetics and is the co-coordinator of the elective course named "Basics of Clinical Bioinformatics" for medical students. He also teaches a lecture about "Effective Learning Techniques."
He has started to deep studying with bioinformatics when he was a PhD candidate. In that period, he has developed himself on bioinformatics of human DNA applications in both second-generation (NGS) and third-generation sequencing (Oxford Nanopore Sequencing) systems. Currently, he provides consultancy to various biotechnology companies in the fields of "Variant prioritization" and "Nanopore Sequencing in the human genome" within the scope of two different Tübitak projects (1501&1507).
