Ceren Kayalar received her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering at Dokuz Eylül University (2004). Following the completion of her Master’s on the subject “Mobile Human-Computer Interaction” in Computer Science and Engineering at Sabancı University (full scholarship, 2006), she began pursuing her PhD studies in the same department as a teaching and research assistant. In 2006-2010, Kayalar worked as a funded scholar by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) through a research project on “Outdoor Augmented Reality for Cultural Heritage”. She has presented and published her research in various conferences. In 2012-2014, Kayalar worked in a joint project titled “Augmented Reality for Research, Field and Museums” of Bologna University and Sabancı University as a scholar. During her graduate studies, she participated in summer schools and workshops at Boğaziçi University, Vienna Technical University and Amsterdam University, developing research collaborations with international scholars from diverse disciplines. Embracing an interdisciplinary approach, she has contributed to projects and events that weave together art, design and technology, worked in startups and values community building.
Kayalar served as an adjunct instructor at Yaşar University in 2016-2022, where she was co-teaching Interaction Design focused studio courses as well as teaching various courses on Interface and Experience Design, Creative Coding and Digital Media in the Visual Communication Design Department. She co-curated exhibitions in local museums featuring the student projects under her supervision and a university-funded research project “Exhibits which seem to think”, for which she also served as a researcher. Kayalar has been an adjunct at Izmir University of Economics since 2023, where she advocates a trans-disciplinary education model through her teaching.
