Deniz received his Ph.D. in 2017 from Cultural Studies and Media Studies Program at Queen's University, Canada. He worked as a Teaching Fellow and Teaching Assistant at Queen's, lecturing primarily on popular culture, film, television and new media.

Previously, he earned his undergraduate degree from Bogazici University Sociology Department and finished Comparative Studies in History and Society master's program at Koc University in Turkey. Besides his academic endeavors, Deniz also worked in the programming and organization of international film festivals. He currently continues his academic work with a focus on international cinema, TV series, new media, and popular culture.
