Heather graduated from the University of Central Florida (UCF) with a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies (areas: Commerce and Letters and Modern Languages) and a minor in Education in 2012. She also obtained her Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Certificate from UCF. During her studies there, she worked with international students at the English Language Institute. She came to Turkey in 2012 and worked at the Bilkent University School of English Language, where she also completed her Cambridge In-service Certificate in English Language Teaching (ICELT). She joined Izmir University of Economics in 2014 and worked as a Preparatory English Language Instructor and member of the Curriculum and Materials Development Unit until moving to the Undergraduate English Department, where she currently teaches and holds a course coordinator position. In 2017, she earned her MA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Massachusetts.
