After graduating from Gaziantep University, English Language and Literature department in 2008, she worked as a translator for several different organizations. Later on Somuncuoglu started teaching K12, and moved onto a higher education.
She received CELTA training in 2016 and started her Master's studies the same year at Cukurova University, English Language Teaching department. During her Master's studies, she also studied at Potsdam, Universitaet on Diversity and Multiculturalism.
In 2019, she submitted a thesis on the perspective of Turkish EFL teachers regarding the refugee students. The same year, she started her PhD studies at Cukurova University, English Language Teaching department.
In 2020, she received a scholarship from the US Embassy to complete a TESOL: Advanced Practitioner module.
