SHORT CV

Dr. Güngörmüşler is an accomplished bioengineer with training in biology and bioengineering from Türkiye, Italy, and Canada. She earned her Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Ege University, with research partially conducted at the University of Manitoba, where she investigated innovative biotechnological methods for producing value-added bioproducts. Her work has focused on environmental microbiology, biohydrogen production, probiotics, life cycle assessment (LCA), and sustainable bioprocesses.

Since joining the Department of Genetics and Bioengineering at Izmir University of Economics in 2017, she has contributed significantly to the academic and research communities. In 2022, she was one of the co-founders of HOPE Biotechnology, a startup focused on the sustainable valorization of waste materials. Her research aims to bridge the gap between biotechnology and sustainability, addressing global challenges related to renewable energy and waste management. Her projects have received substantial funding from organizations such as TÜBİTAK and the İzmir Development Agency.

Dr. Güngörmüşler is actively involved in several international collaborations, including her roles as a Management Committee (MC) member for COST Actions MultiviewLCSA and LIAISE. She was recognized as an International Excellence Fellow at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in 2024, where her current research explores the life cycle assessment of novel biotechnological routes for hydrogen production. Her dedication to advancing sustainability and circular bioproducts is evident in her over 30 publications in high-impact international journals.
