He was born in 1973 in Ankara. He received his BA (1995), Master (1997) and Doctorate Degrees (2001) from Bilkent University, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design. In 1996 he had started working in the university as a TA/RA and in 1999 he was appointed as a lecturer in the same department. His main field of research is design education and experiential learning. He has publications in various international and national refereed journals, including Design Studies, Journal of Learning and Instruction, Journal of Environmental Psychology, The Design Journal, and METU Journal. In both undergraduate and graduate programs, he has been teaching several courses as design studio, design semiotics, design research methods, design perspectives, design representation theories, and visionary design studies. He served as the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design between the years 2011-2015, and then as the Dean of the Graduate School of Social Sciences between the years 2015-2017. Dr. Demirbaş also served as a Member of the Board of IFI (International Federation of Interior Architects / International Federation) for the 2011-2014 period, and currently serves as IFI European Ambassador and Education Taskforce Member. Between 2017 and 2018, he worked as an Invited Research Fellow at the University of Strathclyde in the Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering Glasgow, UK. He is currently working as a member of Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, and he is the Head of the Department of Design Studies. Dr. Demirbaş received his Associate Professor title in 2012 and the Professor title in 2021.
