After studying Interior Architecture and Environmental Design for his Bachelor degree, Dr. Demirbaş studied the effects of environmental psychology in the design studio setting in his master’s study. Following this, he studied the process of design education through Experiential Learning Theory (ELT) of Kolb and the effects of learning styles in design education and received his PhD degree in 2001 from Bilkent University, Ankara Turkey. He is an Assoc. Prof. Dr. in the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Izmir University of Economics, Izmir Turkey. He was the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design between the years 2011-2015 and Dean of the Graduate School of Social Sciences between the years 2015-2017 at Izmir University of Economics. Currently, he is working as a Visiting Researcher in the Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. He was an Executive Board Member of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) between the years 2011-2014. Dr. Demirbaş who has several publications in different international journals such as Learning and Instruction, Design Studies, Journal of Environmental Psychology, The Design Journal and METU Journal of Architecture, has been continuing his research on ELT, learning styles, cognitive styles, design teaching/learning, human factors and naval/marine interiors. He is also working as a professional interior architect/designer for the Design Research and Implementation Centre (EKOTAM) of Izmir University of Economics.
