Semra Tunalı graduated from Ege University, Faculty of Engineering, Industrial Engineering Department in 1978. She received her MSc degree in Applied Statistics from Ege University, Institute of Electronic Computing in 1980. Upon her graduation, for a short duration she worked as a Production Control Engineer at ASMAS- Heavy Industrial Machinery Co. Inc. in Izmir, Turkey. She started her academic career as a Research Assistant at Ege University, Faculty of Administrative Sciences in 1980. She received her MBA degree from University of Missouri in St. Louis, U.S.A. in 1985. She continued her academic career in Dokuz Eylul University, Faculty of Engineering, Industrial Engineering Department. After receiving her Ph.D degree from Ege University, Department of Computer Sciences, she has been promoted to Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor in 1992, 1998 and 2004, respectively. Since 2010 she has been working as a Professor at Izmir University of Economics, Faculy of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Business Administration. During her academic career, she has been as a Visiting Fellow at GINTIC Institute of Manufacturing Technology in Singapore (1992-1994), Northwestern University in Chicago, USA, and Loyola University in Chicago, USA (200-2001).
