He has graduated from the Technical University of Istanbul (ITU) Aircraft Engineering Department in 1993. After graduation, he has worked as design engineer, system engineer, and executive director for Depot Maintenance Facility in aerospace industry. At the same time period, he focused on social sciences and attended to International Relations Department in Istanbul University between 1994-1998 and received his expert diploma. Following the industrial experience, he started to academic career in 2004 and received his MS Degree from Old Dominion University (USA) Aerospace Engineering Department in 2006. He also received his PhD Degree from the same department in 2010. At the same year, he started to work in Turkish Air Force Academy (TURAFA) as a lecturer. He became Assistant Professor in 2011 and Associate Professor in 2014 in the Department of Aerospace Engineering in TURAFA. He was also awarded Turkish Armed Forces Science Award in 2011. He was assigned to Air NCO Higher Vocational School located in Izmir in 2014 and became Department Chair of Technical Programs between 2014-2016. He also appointed as Principal between 2016-2017. He retired from Turkish Air Force in 2017 and started to work as Associate Professor in Izmir University of Economics Aerospace Engineering Department in May 2018. He became Professor in 2019. His main research areas are aerodynamic optimization, heuristic methods, optimization algorithm development, and unmanned aerial vehicle path planning. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pehlivanoglu is the author of about 30 publications in national and international journals with more than 300 citations.
